These steps are the key to any successful weight loss program. I say "successful" because these are the principals that every person who has found permanent weight loss has folowed in one way or another.

First is the plain fact that it's fat you need to lose, not weight . If you actually lose weight on most of the fad diets out there, you lose mostly water... not fat. You're not getting healthier... You're just getting dangerously dehydrated!

Sadly this explains why some diets can promise you such amazing results. What they don't tell you is the results are not permanent. Don't beat yourself up over this. These claims go after us when we are desperate to lose weight. You may be tempted but just remember, people who lose weight successfully don't do it overnight!

Low carb diets will not make you lose fat in the long run because they rob your body of energy thus making it too hard to follow.  Low fat diets are worse, putting even more fat on you!  The only way to drop the fat is by eating the right foods... in the right amounts... and at the right time. Sounds complicated, I know... but it's really simple!

Long, boring cardio exercise... four or even six times per week is the worst way  to burn fat. If you know this little secret, it's now possible to burn five times the belly fat exercising just 45 minutes per week. Not per day... I said per week!

You see, the very concept of a diet is doomed to fail.  Why?  Diets are based in a temporary mindset.  The fact that someone goes on a diet means they will have to come off of the diet.  This is temporary…why force yourself to go on a diet to lose 10 pounds when you’re just going to gain it back and then some when you go off of the diet?  That may sound simple, but most people just don’t get it…they look to diets as the answer to their weight and health problems.  But they’re not the answer, and they actually create more problems for you.  People who are regular dieters don't burn fat over the long haul.

What you can expect from switching to a healthy diet. This is a great passage in 'The China Study' about Glenn's comments on switching to a healthy (in this case vegan) diet.

"The first week is quiet challenging. It's hard to figure out what to eat. I'm not much of a cook, so I got some recipe books out and tried creating some vegatarian dishes. As someone who would swing through McDonald's or heat up a frozen dinner, I found it annoying to have to cook meals each evening.

But over time I found a few that were fantastic. My sister gave me a recipe for West African peanut stew that was incredible and like nothing I ever tasted. And I stumbled on a great whole wheat spaghetti dish with lots of vegatables that was amazing. I challenge anyone to know this was healthy for you. But all of this does take time.

I'm rediscovering fruit, I've always loved fruit, but for some reason I don't really eat much of it. Maybe it's not eating meat, but I'm finding that I'm enjoying fruit more than ever. I now cup up a grapefruit and eat it as a snack. I really like it! I would have never done that before; I actually think my tastes are getting more sensitive.

I was avoiding eating out-something I used to do constantly- for fear of not having a healthy option. But I'm getting more adventurous now, and have found great healthy dishes. The other day I got dragged into a pizza place with a large group; there was nothign I could do I was starved. I ordered a cheese-less pizza with lots of vegatables. They even made it with a whole wheat crust. I was prepared to choke it down but actually it was surprisingly good. I've brought that home a few times since.

I'm finding the cravings for unhealthy foods are pretty much gone, particularly if I don't let myself get hungry. And, honestly, I'm eating like a pig. Being overweight, I've always been self-concious about what I eat. Now I eat like a madman, and feel virtuous to boot. I can honestly say I'm enjoying the food I'm eating now a lot more than before, partly because I'm fussier now in what I eat. I only eat foods I really like.

The first month went by quicker than I though it would. I've lost eight pounds and my cholesterol has dropped dramatically. I can't imagine why I would go back to my old eating patterns."

Ali and Her Mom's Weight Loss Story

Ever since I was young my mom has been been fighting with her weight. I felt bad because I knew everytime we went to the beach she was afraid to show herself in a bikini. She's naturally a shy person which made it worse.

One day during the beginning of the summer of my mom's friends recommend she start the Every Other Day Diet, as she actually started losing some weight. Basically the diet is all about changing the calories you eat each day to confuse your metabolism and keep your body "burning fat all day".

Now I'm a Biological Engineering student at Penn State so I didn't really buy it. Usually the diets that work (in my mind at least) was the old fashion, eat right and exercise diets.

Well after only a week of trying the diet you can really see a difference. At first she would say, oh its probably just water weight, but she lost more and more weight. Just by the way her clothes fit looser, and the energy she had. She started going for walks with our neighbour Jamie (who's in really good shape) and I couldn't believe how happy she looked.

Here's what really made a differnce. We were watching a special on fox news about plaque and toxins building up in the colon and liver. I can't remember the whole thing, but something about slowing down liver function (and I know one of the livers functions is fat loss) when your body in full of toxins. It said that over 90% of people over the age of 30 have a substancial buildup of toxins.

So my mom ordered a free trial of Digest It to try a toxing cleanse. I personally think that a 7-day fast is more effective but hardly anyone now a days has time for that. Digest It works because it contains probiotics (bacteria in yogurt) in large doses. This aids your body in flushing out the toxins you've built up over the years.

She took one pill every morning while on the every other day diet, and her weight loss just took off. Mind you she was exercising by doing her walks each day. I remember my dad joking that her diet was costing a fortune since she had to buy new clothes every week.

The actual concept of what was happening was simply that by eating high calories foods at the right times, you can show your body you are NOT starving. This stops your body from lowering your metabolism, like you see in a weight loss plateau. I cringe everytime I see people going on the next "all soup diet" or something equally obsurd. They are fighting against their body by making it think they are starving. Well your body is just going to protect itself by using less energy.

I've seen recently that this diet trick is gaining popularity in the diet world. I can actually say I am a true believer that this diet trick works, and I'm glad people are starting to notice it! Plus if you've noticed above I even lost 11 pounds on it. That make bikini shopping wayy more fun.

All in all she lost 32 pounds in one month. Maybe its not like the magazine headline, "lose 8 pounds in 4 days" but this actually worked. I would love to see how many people actually lose 8 pounds in 4 days. Um no one!

I wrote this blog for my mom (she is terrible at computers) because I know how much it changed her life and hopefully it can change yours too!

Everytime I look at my mom I am so proud of what she accomplished on Every Other Day Diet. She smiles everyday and you can just seese a different energy around her.

Now you know the reason why you can eat 1,000 calories per day and not lose any weight while your friends can eat 2,500 calories per day and not gain any weight.

Well there's good news. You can actually trick your body into burning fat all day long while reducing your calories and cutting hunger. It's called calorie staggering. By changing the amount of calories and eating high fat (I call them delicious) foods at the right times, your body will never "adjust" and store the calories as fat.

This trick will essentially make your body highly inefficient with processing your food and regulating its metablolism.

Therefore your body will have to tab into your fat reserves without shutting down your metabloism, burning hundreds of extra calories per day.

It can be hard to know exactly when to eat high calorie foods in a way that promotes fat loss, so that's why a good guide is essential.

So go ahead eat that pizza or burger, or even ice cream and still lose weight. I'll be willing to bet your friends will ask you how your losing weight so fast especially when they see you eating pizza!
